Popular Youtube style star Michelle Phan is being sued by powerhouse EDM label Ultra Records for unauthorized use of their music in her videos, which have amassed millions of hits. Among the artists cited by Ultra is DJ/producer Kaskade, whose music has been utilized in many of Phan’s clips.
According to Reuters, the suit was filed in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles last Wednesday (July 16), with Ultra having discovered “dozens” of unauthorized uses of the label’s music in Phan’s videos. Ultra is still combing her back catalog of clips for more instances of their tunes being used.
Among the Kaskade tracks cited in the suit include a remix of “4Am,” which can be heard in Phan’s video, “Night Life Favorites.“

Phan rose to prominence for her makeup tutorials which guide viewers through the process of achieving the looks of such pop culture icons as Barbie and Lady Gaga. Those two clips alone have generated close to 100 million views to date.
The number of Phan videos that feature Ultra music is important to the case, as Ultra is seeking $150,000 for each instance of copyright infringement unless a settlement can be reached.
